Hi babes! I am excited to finally share my wrap-up for the Taylor Swift Playlistathon! Unfortunately, I fell a few books short because Taylor decided to drop ANOTHER surprise album and I ended up listening to it on repeat instead of reading.. You can’t blame me!

The readathon was created by the lovely angels running @tsplaylistathon on twitter! The hosts include: @daryanreads @kaseycanread @lisamariereads. The readathon took place between November 13, 2020 – December 13, 2020.

So, my tbr was originally quite ambitious. I wanted to read 13 books because that is Taylor’s lucky number. Unfortunately, I got a bit slumpy and when I was finally read to persevere, we got a surprise album! In the end, I read 8.5 books.

Dark Shores by Danielle L. Jensen

I am a huge fan of The Bridge Kingdom, so I had to read this book. I started it a while ago on Audible, but put it down because I decided I wanted to buy the book so I can annotate it. I had since received the book and finally read it for this readathon. I absolutely LOVED it. Recommend for fans of enemies-to-lovers and political intrigue.

Written in the Stars by Alexandria Bellefleur

A few friends screamed at me to read this and I am so happy they did! This was such a fun sapphic rom-com! And um.. FAKE DATING. Need I say more? The author even announced a second book following one of the main character’s brother and I am so hyped for it! Read this so we can scream about it!!!

Dark Skies by Danielle L. Jensen

This is the second book in the Dark Shores series and I somehow loved it even more than the first one?? It was amazing!! You actually don’t even have to read Dark Shores first if you want to just jump in with this one. Dark Shores had enemies-to-lovers but this had mutual pining! Ugh, my heart. Jensen writes romance so beautifully. There are still politics and magic systems at play. I just really recommend her work. You do have to read both of these before the next installment, so read up!

Well Played by Jen DeLuca

I loved Well Met, so when I heard about it’s sequel following a side character, I jumped on it. I don’t want to spoil how this is a second chance romance, so I will just recommend to fans of contemporary romance with cozy small town feels. And renaissance fair fans.. obvs! You do not need to read Well Met first, but it has enemies-to-lovers..

I Must Belong Somewhere by Dawn Lanuza

This is a poetry/prose collection that will be coming out January 5, 2021. I was fortunate to get an arc through Netgalley. There are some dark themes and I appreciated the content warning provided at the start; “This book contains discussions on death, suicide ideation, violence, bullying, injury, self-harm, body image, sexism, and mental health.” Review coming next month!

The Spark by Jules Wake

This was recently released December 11, 2020. It currently has a Goodreads rating of 4.1 stars. Personally, I hated it. I got this arc via Netgalley and was so excited to read it! Unfortunately, in the first chapter, I quickly disliked the characters. I decided to continue in hopes of it getting better, but then a third of the ways through, I wanted to DNF. I didn’t because I had an arc and wanted to read it fully before giving such a harsh rating. In the end, it was a waste of my time and I gave it 2 stars. You can give it a try if the synopsis intrigues you, but I believe if the first two chapters don’t grab you, then don’t waste your time. It doesn’t get better.

Mercies by Anne Sexton

Since I am a fan of Plath, I heard a lot about Sexton over the years. I now understand why. Not only were they friends and in the same circles, their poetry is similar in the sense of being confessional. Sexton goes deep into her mental illness, sex, and life in general. Nothing is held back for the sake of prose. I definitely recommend for poetry lovers and people struggling with themselves. It is relieving to read someone who understands. An easy 5 star rating.

Bunny by Mona Awad

I am kind of cheating because I technically haven’t finished this yet. But I am more than halfway through it! I am OBSSESSED with it so far. I am feeling a 5 star rating coming soon. It is so dark and twisted in the best way. I might start calling people Bunny and eat mini-sized food. Review will be coming soon for this. Please read synopsis and research trigger warnings before reading!
